Over a 28-year career in public education, I taught various subjects and served in a variety of roles. My last 16 years were spent teaching AP English in grades 11 and 12. I was often called upon to share insights with administrators and other stakeholders regarding curriculum, technology, and other major decisions.

The best part of frigid winter days in my West Michigan childhood was the balmy, radiant heat from our wood stove. A childhood spent exploring the woods and riding ATVs gave me an appreciation for all things outdoors. My side business in woodworking and my experience managing various aspects of our 250-acre family farm equip me with ample first-hand experience of rural life.

I’ve traveled to almost every state in the U.S. and to several foreign countries. My wife and I continue to add more travel destinations to our list as we roam in our camper trailer. We also serve as hosts for the Harvest Hosts, so we have the pleasure of visiting with a variety of people who live the RV life.
